I for one will be watching and not just listening. When you know let us know. This info is all grist for the mill. I’m a paying subscriber for a reason. For you to continue giving us the truth.
We all have different entries into politics. Some, admittedly are superficial, whether it be flannel shirts, or Fetterman's baggy shorts and hoody. (Why were people so enamored of that style, which suggested his approach to the office was lacking). Lately, it's a lot of long-sleeved white shirts, no ties, and the shirt sleeves rolled up, as if to say, "Hey, I'm ready to work!" Some people never get beyond the "R" or the "D" after the name. We need to demand candidates who show up to speak to us and who move beyond the slogans to show their plan on how to govern. As voters, we need to move beyond the superficial and take the measure of the candidate who is applying for the responsibility of working for us in Washington, D. C.
I'm in Indiana, where my district's Democratic candidate is campaigning but has not honed her message, although I still donated to her campaign. I have donated to Trygve's campaign and will do so again because I think he has a better chance than my candidate. I've also read his writing on Substack, so I know his stances on fiscal responsibility, defense, the social safety net, and other topics. While I miss his writing here, I prefer that he spend his time on the campaign trail reaching people, so I welcome another voice dropping a column here for him.
Lieutenant Dugan-Palumbo (are you really a Lieutenant? Your byline doesn't say so), you're working for Maj Hammer's campaign, and your point in this post is clear. But I want to ask you about something else. Your family of origin, or your father, was/is Republican. Republicans and conservatives are an endless curiosity to me. If I could ask Adam Kinzinger or Liz Cheney about them, I would. But I can't. So I'll ask you, since you grew up with them.
You're concerned with the unfairness of marginalized groups, wars, and equal rights. Republicans/conservatives don't care about that? You're aware that nearly a century ago, a Democratic president took rural America from barely hanging on to mostly thriving. Reps/cons don't care about whether rural America is barely hanging on, or mostly thriving? You're concerned about rural "health care," medical access for poor people, and how swampy is the swamp. Reps/cons aren't concerned about that? Do they admit they don't care about things like that?
The fact is that I myself don't think people in government should wear flannel shirts to "business" events. You wouldn't have worn torn jeans and a flannel shirt to your school prom. "A time and a place for everything," sort of thing. So I'm glad you feel recognized, but it doesn't have to be displayed that way.
I just don't understand the Rep/con agenda, or what Reps/cons would say it is.
Supporting from WI where we love our Trygves. Hope to meet one from ND some day when I visit DC
Well said and much needed candor. TY
Too much you, not what I pay for…
Love it, Dawn! So glad you are working with the Dems in North Dakota!
