What a tragedy it is to have the polar opposite of Teddy Roosevelt speak at his library opening. Next comes the narcissist-in-chief’s 4th of Trump-lie

Rally. What a sad time for our country.

But…a beautifully written piece Mr. Hammer. You are a true American!

It is men like Burgum, and all the other sycophants that have made Trump possible. I despise Trump and have gagged at his mafia scum life for over 40 years but ultimately, it is the many cowards and racists around us that have allowed Trump to rise to this position. There have always been bad men like Trump but the degree of cowardice of the Congress, Senate and Supreme Court and the apathy along with bigotry of ordinary Americans that has enabled this crisis.

As an Ohio voter, and the sister of the Lawrence County, SD Democratic Party chairwoman, I would love to see each of the Dakotas' single Representatives elected, in order to offset the 10 red Ohio delegation. We expect to add one blue senator and 2 blue representatives. Best of luck to all of you!

Teddy Roosevelt is so much more of a human being than Trump and Burgum will EVER be. Trump is destroying America to serve himself and Burgum is helping him destroy our American Natural World - something Teddy Roosevelt fought to create, preserve, and protect. If Teddy were alive today he would clean both their clocks and tell them to get out and never return.........

This piece was fascinating and, as a story of what once was and may yet be again, uplifting. It provided a reminder of what greatness really is, contrasted with its pathetic opposite. This framing could be the basis of a book, a study of character type and how they manifest publicly. The subtext, the real story, would be a study of us, the people that elected both, and why, and where we go from here, in or out of the arena.

I live in California now but I grew up in Belfield, 10 miles from Medora, where this travesty, by now, has taken place. This makes me furious and repulsed but mostly sad that this library has been tainted and the legacy of TR has been trampled by this horrible administration. I know my Dad is spinning in his grave...

Trump only speaks on one subject: himself. He will lie about his "accomplishments" in ways that are so egregiously divorced from the reality of the lives of his audience that he will seem completely delusional. He will lie about things that are not going well, never demonstrating the courage required to accept blame (he has zero courage) nor promising to do better, but scapegoating others for those problems in ways that are also total lies.

He will compare himself favorably to Teddy Roosevelt in ways that are insulting to Roosevelt's memory and completely delusional regarding who Trump is, himself.

If he were anyone but the President, such a speech would deserve a shower of rotting vegetables. We shouldn't be surprised if the audience leaves with serious physical and intellectual indigestion (even though they may not realize why).

Couldn’t agree more. Burgum is awful. Trump is awful for the ages. Good luck!

Thank you, Trygve, for all you do. I never knew all that history you put forth here.

I've traveled ND, from Fargo to Crosby and back again to fulfill a lifelong goal. North Dakotans are a special breed of people.

Thank You Trygve, I would echo Mr. Parker. You carry the name, could you also be the Great, Great Grandson ?

Thank you for this beautiful reminder of how immigrants built our country into this great nation. We def will return deserving honor and respect. People are finally waking up, sick and tired of all the lies, blowing of their own horns and all these inept fools running this clown show. And especially the continuous American history rewrite lunacy. Enough already. Go Hammer!

Ah, you're back. Good. I wonder if the crowd for the princess and Doug will be as sprawling as the one for the great American unfair.

The princess does, in fact, speak softly, but carry a big stick. She blathers softspoken nonsense, and you can ask Cheney, Cornyn, Cassidy, and Massie how big the stick is.
